The biggest local attraction in Benalmadena Pueblo is arguably the huge variety of restaurants and tapas bars. As well as the traditional Spanish cuisine there’s also restaurants with a northern European influence, including a Finnish run restaurant, Danish bakery etc.

There is a fantastic range of beaches to chose from, and Benalmádena Costa boasts a beautiful sandy beach and restaurant-lined promenade.

Activities along the coast include windsurfing, kite-surfing, jet skis, water skiing, beach volleyball, speed boat hire, etc

Benalmádena pueblo is a popular base for golfers, and there is a keen golfing contingency amongst the local residents.

There is a local English players club here in the village which visits the courses along the Costa del Sol, and offers the option of playing with them, or they can assist in making your reservations.

The nearest full course to Benalmadena Pueblo is the renowned 'Torrequebrada', which is only 5 minutes drive, and the village boasts views overlooking the course. Others close by include 'Alhaurin', 'Los Olivos', 'Mijas Golf', 'El Parador' in Malaga, Los Lagos', 'La Cala', and 'El Chaparral'. There are dozens more on offer along the coastline, and all within a comfortable driving distance. There are also two 9 hole courses and driving range on the outskirts of the pueblo.

The Costa Del Sol is firmly established as the Premier golfing destination in Europe, with over 35 golf courses, including some of the world's best, with a positive welcome to visiting players, and an enviable climate.

For those who enjoy the countryside, the hill walking next to the village is excellent, and if you don't have the desire to hike the extra 500m vertical from the pueblo up to the top, there is always the telecabin to take you to the summit of one of the mountains, (the Calamorro), which offers spectacular views. From there there are short walks along the top to other viewpoints, and then you can return in the telecahin. Or you can take one of the many marked walking routes which will take you as far as Mijas, Alhaurin on the other side of the mountain, or back down to Benalmadena Pueblo.

It’s also possible to cycle to the top if you have a good mountain bike and are reasonably fit. There are local companies that offer adrenaline fuelled downhill mountain biking within the same area.

At the top of the cable car you’ll also find the ‘Jardin de Aguilas’. (The Garden of Eagles). There’s a daily show where you can see and interact with eagles and birds of prey.

If you want to explore slightly further away from the village, there is an abundance of established trails to suit all abilities within a 30 or 40 minute drive. The mountains are home to an abundance of wildlife, flora and fauna, and can be explored all year round. Birdwatchers can also benefit from a diverse variety not seen in the UK.

Award winning Benalmádena marina is home to the local nautical club, and a days sailing or sea fishing can be organised here.

There is also a registered PADI diving centre which offers scuba diving along the coast.

Dolphin watching can be organised from Benalmádena or other locations along the coast to Gibraltar.

Malaga football club are part of the Spanish league, and throughout the season there is the opportunity to see them compete against teams such as Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Benalmádena pueblo boasts its own Olympic size swimming pool, sports centre, tennis courts, gymnasium, and football pitch. To add to this there is another large sports centre within a few minutes drive in Arroyo de la Miel.

Cycling is also very popular, and you can be assured of seeing both mountain bikes and road cycles passing through the village daily. The climate makes this ideal for easy rides or serious training. There’s some incredible road cycling conditions direct from the pueblo, as well as local companies that offer downhill mountain biking services with a lift back to the top.

There are several horse riding clubs and a horse racetrack on the Costa del sol. Both the racetrack and a riding school are only a few minutes drive from the pueblo. They offer activities for both beginners and advanced riders.

In between Mijas and Fuengirola is a kart racing centre with full size kart track and models of karts to suit beginners as well as experienced racers.

During the winter months skiing is also an option, with the Sierra Nevada less then 2 hours drive away. In recent years the resort of Sol Y Nieve (Sun & Snow) has experienced some fantastic conditions, and equipment can be hired in the resort. It isn't unknown for locals to be skiing in the morning, and return to the coast for windsurfing in the afternoon.

A day trip to Africa is always an option, with the port of Algeciras only an hour away. A fast ferry will take you to the Spanish province of Ceuta in northern Africa in about 40 minutes. There is also a helicopter service due to start shortly.
